11/30/06 - "Suburban teenager moves to
Aspen
in 1973, and discovers a much bigger world of choices and
opportunity. Torn between science, art, environmental issues, and
entrepreneurship, he
bounces in & out of universities, art projects, odd jobs &
businesses,
from Aspen to California. Frustrated with the financial struggles of
freelancing it, he gets degrees in math, economics, and physics.
He writes software for atomic-force microscopes by day, and songs by
night. After many years, he discovers the "agile" and
"extreme-programming"
approaches to
software, and deeper design issues. He starts to like software
again enough that he does it night & day, for many years. Now
torn
between software, science, art, music, environmental issues, and
entrepreneurship, he fantasizes about spending more time in Aspen than
California, and working on new innovative software projects. He
starts a series of
web sites
focused on specific jobs, hoping that people will share their stories,
and find more fulfilling gigs. In honor of the original Aspen
inspiration, he
starts Aspengigs first." -- Kelley Harris
